Thornybush Game Reserve - Kruger National Park

Thornybush Game Reserve, proclaimed as early as 1979, is 100 square kilometres in extent, and is pristine Bushveld, which neighbours the Timbavati Reserve, and is part of the Greater Kruger Park.

There is a mixed savannah and riverine environment, making it perfect for the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo, along with numerous other species. Birding is also excellent, with some 280 species being recorded. General game is good, with some 60 species of mammals being present. The reserve is a good, year-round destination, but is in a summer (October to April) rainfall area – but the weather is hot. Winters are both warm and mild, but night-time temperatures tend to be quite low.

Guests can enjoy extensive game viewing from 4x4 vehicles, and on foot, with highly qualified guides.

Thornybush Game Reserve is approximately 5 hours drive from Johannesburg. In addition, there are daily scheduled flights (1 hour in duration) to Hoedspruit Airport, from OR Tambo (formerly Johannesburg International).
